Background and Education
Dr. Sophia V. Mai was born to Vietnamese immigrant parents in Morgan City, Louisiana, and moved to New Orleans as a young child. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School before attending Xavier University, where she earned degrees in Biology and English. Dr. Mai received her medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. During her junior year, she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and was selected as one of two scholarship recipients for her exceptional academic performance and community service. Upon graduation, she was honored with the Dean’s Award in recognition of her leadership.
She completed her internship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California, where she was first introduced to cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Mai returned to New Orleans in 2013 to complete her Dermatology residency at LSU, where she met her husband, Dr. Taylor Hilton. Today, they run Hilton Dermatology + Aesthetics together.
In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Mai cares for local veterans as a staff dermatologist at the VA Medical Center and remains active in academic medicine as an Associate Clinical Professor at LSU, teaching dermatology residents and medical students on a weekly basis. Dr. Mai is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the Louisiana Dermatologic Society

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Mai’s interests include cuddling with her three children, Megaformer Pilates, researching and developing recipes, dining out, digital photography, and traveling to unique and foreign destinations.
